On Being Inspired by Melody Beattie’s Gratitude Unlocks Quote

It takes a powerful amount of self healing for us to have gratitude in moments of grief and trouble.

Which few people know better than Melody Beattie, author of the 1986 bestseller “Co-Dependent No More”.

Melody is often best known for her inspirational quotes—such as her famous “gratitude unlocks the fullness of life…” quote, which is from her book “The Language of Letting GO: Hazelden Meditation Series”:

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough and more. It turns denial into acceptance. Chaos to order. Confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast. A house into a home, a stranger into a friend.”

But Melody’s two and a half decades of journalistic work on co-dependency and healing from trauma stem from her own experiences in trauma, which began from a very young age. From kidnapping and sexual abuse to dealing with family alcoholism and the death of a child, Melody’s life experiences have informed her work firsthand.

It’s easy to see why her transformation out of substance abuse, abusive relationships, and into recovery, gratitude, and abundance has inspired millions around the world towards the same.

Challenge:

  • What meditative acts can you engage in which tune you in to gratitude?
  • Do you have artistic skills lying dormant which you can rediscover?
  • Are you able to enjoy daily walks in nature?
  • What physical activity can you find to enjoy, which put you in the mindset of appreciating your surroundings?
